A unique approach to end abortion
The 40 Days for Life is an intensive effort designed to educate the public and raise awareness, save lives, bring forgiveness and healing, and lead our nation to repentance for the sin of abortion. The "40 Days" has three components:
- 40 days of prayer and fasting
- 40 days of peaceful vigil 40 days
- Community Outreach
1. Prayer and fasting Christ told us that some bad spirits can not be driven out by prayer and fasting. The two go hand in hand. Prayer keeps us rooted desire to do God's will. Fasting is a sacrifice that invites us to overcome with God's help. Fasting is not a Christian diet but the participation of body prayer. You can do a fast food, television, alcohol ... in short, everything that takes you away from God.
Every day by the end of the campaign pledge to pray and fast for this national effort and the efforts here in our city.
PREPARATION FOR 40 DAYS OF PRAYER AND FASTING
COMMIT
when can I start?
The time has come to start praying to discern how I could get into the campaign 40 days for life and participate in prayer and fasting to eliminate abortion. I shall succeed with the help of the Holy Spirit and not by my own strength.
In the coming days, I will include in my prayers daily morning and evening or any time of day, the following intentions:
- end to abortion, the conversion of those seeking abortions, and those who practice abortion.
- courage and perseverance of the participants in the campaign 40 days for life.
- participation of churches and people of faith in this campaign.
- for those who can not attend the vigil 40 days of participation by providing financial and spiritual.
- for discernment on how I could join this campaign of prayer and fasting.
I'M NOT SURE THAT I HAVE THE TIME ...
I must ask myself what are the activities of my current schedule.
How did I engaged in these activities? How much time is allowed for each activity?
How each activity cost me to?
Prayer is it in my schedule? How much time do I devote to prayer? Do I add minutes to my time of prayer for the intentions listed above?
I DO NOT THINK THAT I WILL TRY TO FASTING. I DO NOT THINK THAT I CAN DO IT FOR ONE DAY, LET ALONE FOR 40 DAYS!
Do I have fasted as a kind of prayer, in reparation for the sins of abortion, as penance for something I had done, for a special intention, as a gift for someone?
Is what I considered the following form of fasting?
- Deprivation of meals per day.
- Eat only the equivalent of a meal throughout the day. If dinner is the biggest meal of the day and includes the main dish of meat or fish, potatoes or any other form of carbohydrate, salad or other vegetable dish, I can have the carbohydrate in the morning with my coffee, the dish of salad or vegetables for dinner and the main dish for dinner.
- Reduce ambient noise such as television, telephone, the sound system, etc.. and use the time to read the Bible or other spiritual reading for Catholics pray the Rosary, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy and other devotions.
- Do I have any cravings or other forms of slavery that separates me from God such as excessive shopping, alcohol, certain foods I eat to excess? If I find it hard to not do that, it is likely that I should deprive myself by fasting.
- If I can not live a particularly fast form throughout the campaign, I can consider a combination of different kinds of fasts. At the end of the day, I will choose the kind of fasting that I'll do the next day. Be prepared for the next day and decided to help me avoid failure.
After choosing the kind of fasting I have to do in prayer:
- first to fast in holiness,
- for the intentions of the campaign,
- and my own conversion, particularly if I have an obsession that is the subject of my fast.
NOW I'M READY
From today until the campaign began Feb. 25, I strengthen them spiritually to help support this campaign with my prayer and my fasting.
Tools for Success:
- Choose a time of prayer preferably early in the day. I will start with five minutes and I will increase every day. If I can not do it now, I will seize the first opportunity pass. But I am not limited to a prayer a day. Since I started the day in prayer, I can continue with each passing minute, waiting for the coffee, queuing for the cashier, pumping gasoline, etc.. I will try to take advantage of every opportunity during the day to pray for the intentions above. Determine a
- place of prayer that you put aside specifically for prayer. By choosing a quiet place where I have my Bible (and for his Catholic rosary), my prayer book, my icons, my statues and other sacramentals, that predisposes to prayer. I will approach this place with reverence because it is a meeting place special to me and my Lord and his angels and his saints. I also light a candle before starting to pray.
- Keep a little journal will help me see my progress. Whenever possible, I would note not only the special time of prayer but also other opportunities for worship throughout the day as far as my memory allows. I could even write down examples of situations that led me to prayer like seeing a child, an elderly person, a mother carrying baby and groceries easily, a pregnant woman, a welcoming smile, etc.. Write also the intentions of the day, my fasting, other important prayers, Bible verses, etc..
- I shall insert small notes on the table in the bathroom, the refrigerator, the stove, on my desktop and in many places as possible in order to remember to say a little prayer and keep my fasting.
