40 DAYS FOR LIFE

Many states are now on the verge of get rid of the scourge of abortion. The number of abortions has dropped so significantly that eight states do have more than one or two abortion clinics each. This fall, vigils of prayer of the 40 Days for Life will take place in the last abortion centers in North Dakota and in Mississippi, states which have only one abortion center each.

This fall, vigils 40 Days for Life are expected to last two abortion clinics in Nebraska and the last two in Kentucky. In Nebraska, the rate of abortions has declined by 50 percent since its peak in 1990, according to a new report from the University of Nebraska. By the end of the campaign 40 Days for Life launched before their doors last spring, the center of Planned Parenthood abortion in Lincoln, Nebraska, has suspended its operations (ie, its abortion services) for eight weeks, and the center of Planned Parenthood abortion in Council Bluffs, Iowa, targeting the metropolitan area of Omaha has ceased to have an abortion past 22 weeks.

And here is yet another encouraging development: South Dakota, another state with only a last-abortion center and the state was able to temporarily stop abortions in July after entry into force of the law on informed consent-developed a bill prohibiting abortion for all practical purposes! If passed, this would be the first bill that would have a very strong chance of repelling the unjust decision of the Supreme Court Roe v. Wade, who has imposed abortion in the United States in 1973.

The launch of the 40 Days for Life a success!

500 people attended the launch of "40 Days for Life" which was held on Parliament Hill on September 23. Thereafter, there was a vigil in front of avortuaire. You can here in watch video clips .

Angelina Steenstra was among those who addressed the crowd. His testimony was very touching. As a teenager, she was raped and she underwent an abortion. Because of this experience, she abused alcohol and drugs and adopted behaviors harmful to repress his hatred for herself and her feelings of guilt.

She said that ultimately, what was released, it's the truth: She has confessed to killing her child. She needed to forgive and forgiveness: forgiving the man who raped her, people who told him to have an abortion, and the company has put pressure on her to end her pregnancy.

I relay this testimony because very often the pastors and others are afraid to tell the truth for fear that they or they hurt women. They do not understand that denying them the truth about abortion, they deny them the very thing they need to find peace in their soul. We do not want to be harsh with them. God knows they are often quite tough on themselves. But we must communicate. To receive the grace of forgiveness, we must confess his sin.

I hope you can attend the vigil at the abortion clinic on Bank Street. If you want get involved in the cause of life, call Campaign Life at 613-729-0379.

What the 40 Days for Life (40 Days for Life). Donate Get Involved

The 40 Days for Life was launched in Texas in 2004 to promote fasting and prayer as the only true means to end abortion in our world. We are also trying to raise awareness about this injustice. Today, this initiative takes place in 170 cities across North America. This year, for the first time, Canadian cities - Toronto and Ottawa - are involved.

In Ottawa, there will be a constant vigil near the Morgentaler Clinic in downtown, from 24 September until 2 November. This exercise is not a political gesture, but rather an act of faith. We want to implore the Almighty to convert hearts so that people develop a greater respect for life. The existence of abortion in our society stems from a spiritual problem: the devaluation of human beings. Since it derives from a spiritual problem, abortion also requires a spiritual solution. Without the grace of God, he can not defeat evil, so we must rely on God.

often among people of good will, we talk about being in solidarity with the weak and marginalized. But it is rare, even among Christians, this solidarity extended to unborn children. Because these victims are hidden, because the violence committed against them is not disseminated in the media, we forget more easily. In our society, these victims do not count. They have no legal value. When pregnancy inconvenient, they are treated "cell clusters", against any visual evidence and embryological. Even some Christians feel they are not human.

How an individual can counteract these trends? The 40 Days for Life presents a opportunity for the believer concerned to engage in the struggle for life. The first thing every Christian needs to advance the Kingdom of God is prayer. Praying is so easy but so effective. On several occasions in the Gospels, Jesus has granted a request by the faith of the speaker. He said "everyone who asks receives, who seeks finds, to him who knocks it open."

We are not here, for cons to "confront". It is a journey of faith. There is no debate, we bear witness. This is not about votes, surveys, or public relations. It is a question to fight evil with all the grace and spiritual weapons that God has given us.

The "40 days" are a perfect way to introduce newcomers to fight for the lives of unborn children. It is not necessary to know all the arguments and all the tactics of our opponents.

It only put our battle with God and ask him to help and change people's hearts. If you are trying to get involved and pray one hour before the Morgentaler Clinic in Ottawa, send your name and co-ordinate , and your availability and we will join you shortly.

There will be a rally starting campaign on Tuesday, September 23, between 19:00 and 21:00 on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Then there will be a procession with lanterns, and, in conclusion, speeches at the vigil site.

A unique approach to end abortion

The 40 Days for Life is an intensive effort designed to educate the public and raise awareness, save lives, bring forgiveness and healing, and lead our nation to repentance for the sin of abortion. The "40 Days" has three components:

  • 40 days of prayer and fasting
  • 40 days of peaceful vigil 40 days
  • Community Outreach
1. Prayer and fasting

Christ told us that some bad spirits can not be driven out by prayer and fasting. The two go hand in hand. Prayer keeps us rooted desire to do God's will. Fasting is a sacrifice that invites us to overcome with God's help. Fasting is not a Christian diet but the participation of body prayer. You can do a fast food, television, alcohol ... in short, everything that takes you away from God.

Every day by the end of the campaign pledge to pray and fast for this national effort and the efforts here in our city.

PREPARATION FOR 40 DAYS OF PRAYER AND FASTING

COMMIT

when can I start?

The time has come to start praying to discern how I could get into the campaign 40 days for life and participate in prayer and fasting to eliminate abortion. I shall succeed with the help of the Holy Spirit and not by my own strength.

In the coming days, I will include in my prayers daily morning and evening or any time of day, the following intentions:

  • end to abortion, the conversion of those seeking abortions, and those who practice abortion.
  • courage and perseverance of the participants in the campaign 40 days for life.
  • participation of churches and people of faith in this campaign.
  • for those who can not attend the vigil 40 days of participation by providing financial and spiritual.
  • for discernment on how I could join this campaign of prayer and fasting.

I'M NOT SURE THAT I HAVE THE TIME ...

I must ask myself what are the activities of my current schedule.

How did I engaged in these activities? How much time is allowed for each activity?

How each activity cost me to?

Prayer is it in my schedule? How much time do I devote to prayer? Do I add minutes to my time of prayer for the intentions listed above?

I DO NOT THINK THAT I WILL TRY TO FASTING. I DO NOT THINK THAT I CAN DO IT FOR ONE DAY, LET ALONE FOR 40 DAYS!

Do I have fasted as a kind of prayer, in reparation for the sins of abortion, as penance for something I had done, for a special intention, as a gift for someone?

Is what I considered the following form of fasting?

  • Deprivation of meals per day.
  • Eat only the equivalent of a meal throughout the day. If dinner is the biggest meal of the day and includes the main dish of meat or fish, potatoes or any other form of carbohydrate, salad or other vegetable dish, I can have the carbohydrate in the morning with my coffee, the dish of salad or vegetables for dinner and the main dish for dinner.
  • Reduce ambient noise such as television, telephone, the sound system, etc.. and use the time to read the Bible or other spiritual reading for Catholics pray the Rosary, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy and other devotions.
  • Do I have any cravings or other forms of slavery that separates me from God such as excessive shopping, alcohol, certain foods I eat to excess? If I find it hard to not do that, it is likely that I should deprive myself by fasting.
  • If I can not live a particularly fast form throughout the campaign, I can consider a combination of different kinds of fasts. At the end of the day, I will choose the kind of fasting that I'll do the next day. Be prepared for the next day and decided to help me avoid failure.

After choosing the kind of fasting I have to do in prayer:

  • first to fast in holiness,
  • for the intentions of the campaign,
  • and my own conversion, particularly if I have an obsession that is the subject of my fast.

NOW I'M READY

From today until the campaign began Feb. 25, I strengthen them spiritually to help support this campaign with my prayer and my fasting.

Tools for Success:

  • Choose a time of prayer preferably early in the day. I will start with five minutes and I will increase every day. If I can not do it now, I will seize the first opportunity pass. But I am not limited to a prayer a day. Since I started the day in prayer, I can continue with each passing minute, waiting for the coffee, queuing for the cashier, pumping gasoline, etc.. I will try to take advantage of every opportunity during the day to pray for the intentions above. Determine a
  • place of prayer that you put aside specifically for prayer. By choosing a quiet place where I have my Bible (and for his Catholic rosary), my prayer book, my icons, my statues and other sacramentals, that predisposes to prayer. I will approach this place with reverence because it is a meeting place special to me and my Lord and his angels and his saints. I also light a candle before starting to pray.
  • Keep a little journal will help me see my progress. Whenever possible, I would note not only the special time of prayer but also other opportunities for worship throughout the day as far as my memory allows. I could even write down examples of situations that led me to prayer like seeing a child, an elderly person, a mother carrying baby and groceries easily, a pregnant woman, a welcoming smile, etc.. Write also the intentions of the day, my fasting, other important prayers, Bible verses, etc..
  • I shall insert small notes on the table in the bathroom, the refrigerator, the stove, on my desktop and in many places as possible in order to remember to say a little prayer and keep my fasting.
